Profile:
Dr. Laurie Grobman is a Professor of English and Women's Studies at Penn State Berks. As a teacher, scholar, and college citizen, Grobman is deeply committed to a multicultural perspective that builds bridges and heals divisions, but does not erase the differences that enrich us as a world community.
Grobman has a strong record of research. In addition to the books listed below, Grobman also published Teaching at the Crossroads: Cultures and Critical Perspectives in Literature by Women of Color (2001), and On Location: Theory and Practice in Classroom-Based Writing Tutoring (2005) (coedited with the late Dr. Candace Spigelman), which won the 2005 Outstanding Scholarship in a Book Award from the International Writing Centers Association.
Grobman's recent teaching interests center on public scholarship, bringing together students and community organizations to produce meaningful work while enriching students' learning experiences. Among Grobman's proudest moments was when she received the "Appreciation for Outreach to the African American Community" award from the local chapter of the NAACP in November, 2009 due in large part to these public scholarship projects. Grobman also recently launched The Laboratory for Public Scholarship and Democracy at Penn State Berks.
